The Dua is the Container of all Good.
Narration: Mutarref bin Abdullah bin AsShukhayr: (I remembered what is the container of all good for the goods are many; The fasting and the prayer, and if these are in the hand of Allah, and if you aren’t able to do what is in the Hand of Allah except by asking Him, then He gives you, then the container of all good is the dua/supplication). [Aj-juhd by Imam Ahmed 1330].
Explanation: The dua is the foundation of all good and the key to all virtues and noble deeds, because all affairs are in the hand of Allah in terms of giving and withholding, lowering and raising, honoring and humiliating. Therefore, whoever is given success to make dua, then he has obtained the key of all good.
Imam Ibnul Qayyem said in his book, the Fawaid (page 127-128): (The foundation of every good is to know that whatever Allah wills, it is, and whatever Allah doesn’t will, it is not. Then, you should be certain that the good (deeds) are from His blessing, so be thankful to Him, and entreat Him that He doesn’t take them away from you. And the bad (deeds) are from His forsaking and punishment, so invoke Him to bring an end between you and it (the bad deed), and that He doesn’t leave you to yourself in terms of doing good deeds and leaving bad deeds.
And the people of knowledge agreed that the origin of every good is the tawfeeq of Allah for His slave, and the origin of every bad is His forsaking of His slave. And they agreed that the tawfeeq is that Allah doesn’t entrust you to yourself, and that the forsaking is to leave you to yourself.
If the origin of every good is the tawfeeq and it is in the hand of Allah, not in the hand of the servant, then the key of it is the dua, (showing) need (to Him), true resorting (to Allah) desire (from Allah), and (showing) awe to Him. So, when He wants to give this key to the servant, then He desires to open for him (door to all good), and when He misguides him from the key, the door to all good remains shaken without it.
And whoever is given whatever is given except before falling short of giving Thanks, showing lack of needs, and disregarding the supplication (to Allah), and no one won whatever won (with the will of Allah and with His help) except by establishing the Thanks (giving thanks to Allah), showing true need to Him, and making supplication to Him).
